About

【Brief history】

The French Department was founded in 1981 to meet the growing demand for international business professionals. The master’s program was launched in 2000.

Since its establishment, the department has recruited faculty members from diverse fields such as French literature, linguistics, film, art, politics, culture, and more. Our team includes 12 full-time professors, 5 part-time instructors, and French-speaking interns, forming a strong academic unit dedicated to both teaching and research excellence.

【Department feature

We are the only French department in a public university in Taiwan that specializes in French literature. With intensive, small-class training, our students begin learning French from scratch and are able to take courses taught entirely in French by their third year. Most students graduate with a DELF diploma ranging from B1 to C1 level.

Our department also boasts a rich collection of films from France and other French-speaking countries. Over 2,000 DVDs are available through our Lumière Movie Center. In addition, our university libraries house a wide variety of French-language resources, including newspapers, journals, books, and even comic books.

Our university is part of the Taiwan United University System, alongside National Tsing Hua University, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, and National Chengchi University. Students benefit from a range of integrated resources, such as the ability to take courses at partner universities without additional tuition, borrow and return books across campuses, use inter-campus shuttle services, and participate in various joint programs.
